Okefenokee Wild Life Refuge is an incredible 700 square miles and provides endless recreational activities. The Great Okefenokee Swamp is one of North America’s most unspoiled, fascinating and precious natural areas. It is the largest, intact and un-fragmented wetland wilderness swamp in North America. "Okefenokee" is what the Creeks and Seminoles called, "Land of Trembling Earth."

Banks Lake Preserve is only 30 minutes away from Millwood Plantation and is a 4,049 acre National Wildlife Refuge located in Lanier County, Georgia. Banks Lake is a natural pocosin or sink of ancient geologic origin. The refuge was established in 1985 for the protection and conservation of this unique environment as well as migratory and resident wildlife.

Laura S. Walker Lake is 15 minutes from Millwood Plantation. Located near the northern edge of the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp, this park is home to many fascinating creatures and plants. The park's lake offers opportunities for boating, skiing and fishing and features a championship 18-hole golf course. Laura Walker was a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader and naturalist.
